Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@primarywindowfilms.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Commercial window tinting is designed to meet the unique needs of businesses, such as reducing glare in offices, protecting merchandise from fading in retail stores, and enhancing privacy in conference rooms. Residential window tinting is primarily used for reducing heat and glare, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing privacy in homes.

Yes, Primary window films offers custom window tinting solutions to meet the unique needs and preferences of our customers. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements and we will provide a tailored solution.

Yes, window tinting is safe for your windows when installed by a professional. The window film is designed to adhere to the glass without damaging it, and can actually enhance the strength of the glass.

Security window film is designed to strengthen glass by helping hold shattered glass together when broken. This reduces the risk of injury and can slow forced entry, smash-and-grab attempts, and accidental breakage.

No. Security window film is not bulletproof or shatterproof. It is designed to reinforce glass and improve safety, not stop firearms or guarantee intrusion prevention.

There are four main categories:

  • Solar control film – reduces heat, glare, and UV

  • Privacy & frosted film – blocks visibility while allowing light through

  • Decorative & graphic film – adds patterns, logos, or designs

  • Safety & security film – strengthens glass and holds shards together when broken

Not necessarily. Some films are tinted for heat and glare control, while others are nearly clear, frosted, or decorative. The appearance depends on the specific film selected.

Most interior-installed window films last 10 to 15+ years depending on film type, sun exposure, and installation quality. Add an answer to this item.

Yes. Window film can be professionally removed without damaging the glass, although adhesive residue may require cleaning.

Yes. Graphic and decorative films can be custom-cut to display logos, branding, frosted designs, gradients, or full storefront graphics.

Privacy films and frosted films maintain privacy day and night. Reflective solar films may provide privacy during the day, but become less private at night when interior lights are on.

Yes. Frosted and privacy films allow light to pass through while obscuring direct visibility. Some styles allow partial visibility depending on lighting conditions.

Most quality window films block up to 99% of UV radiation, which helps reduce fading of furniture, flooring, artwork, and fabrics.

Window film provides permanent, low-maintenance performance without blocking views or light like blinds and curtains do. Many people use both together for maximum control.

No, when the correct film is used on the correct glass type. Cracking only occurs when incompatible film is installed on certain heat-absorbing or tempered glass. This is why professional film selection matters.

Properly installed window film will not bubble or peel. Small water pockets may appear during installation but normally disappear within a few days as the film cures.

Most films cure within 7 to 30 days, depending on temperature, humidity, and film thickness.

Yes, but wait at least 30 days before cleaning. After that, use soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaners. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners.

Modern window films have scratch-resistant coatings, but they are not scratch-proof. Abrasive pads, sharp objects, or rough cleaning tools can damage the surface.

No. Most modern window films do not interfere with Wi-Fi, cell signals, or GPS.

Some glass manufacturers require compatible films to be used. Professional film installers select films designed to meet window manufacturer guidelines.

Solar films reduce heat entering a building, which can lower air-conditioning costs during warm months.

Yes. Safety and security films help hold broken glass together, reducing the risk of injury if glass breaks.

No. Frosted films allow light to pass through while providing privacy.

Window film reacts to light levels. During the day, when it is brighter outside than inside, reflective and privacy films make it harder to see in. At night, when interior lights are on, visibility can increase because the light balance reverses. This is normal behavior for all window films and not a defect.

Frosted and decorative films provide consistent privacy regardless of lighting, while solar and reflective films change appearance based on light conditions.
